Parents Visiting School Due to the security guidelines at the school, the school is requesting that parents not come to the classrooms during the school day. If you must contact your child during the school day, to deliver items or messages, please report to the school office.

If you need to pick your child up early during the school day, parents are asked to go to the school office to sign their child out.

The school is also requesting that parents wait outside the building for their children after school.

Parent/Teacher Conferences and Communication

In addition to regularly scheduled parent teacher conferences, I will be happy to meet and discuss questions and concerns with you at a mutually agreed upon time.  However, I will not be available for parent-teacher conferences during instructional time.  We arrive at school at or before 8:00 a.m. and stay until 3:20 p.m.  I will be happy to schedule a conference if you contact me.

Homework

Students will be given time in class to work on most assignments so that I may give assistance.  However, some assignments will be given that are considered homework.    It is very important that students complete all assignments. Students who do not complete a homework assignment may be required to miss a recess to make up the missed assignment.  A missed assignment will not only hurt their grade, but will diminish their ability to do future assignments that build on skills missed.  Assignments missed will be accepted the next day for a late grade.  Late grades will receive a ten-point reduction.  Assignments will not be accepted after that.  The student will receive a grade of zero on that assignment.

Students are responsible for copying their assignments from the board into their assignment notebook. Each student should also have a folder for transporting assignments to and from school.  It is their responsibility to submit completed assignments.  Any assignment, which is not completed and submitted in the proper location with the student’s name, is considered a late paper and may be given a late grade. Parents are encouraged to assist students with assignments they bring home.  However, we do expect all written work to be in the student’s handwriting.  Your child may also need your involvement with reviewing and studying for tests.

Take Home Folder

Your child should bring this folder home EVERYDAY.  It will contain papers, notes, study guides, etc.  This folder returns to school daily.

Absences

When your child is absent from school please call the office and send a note with your child when they return.  Students who are absent are expected to complete assignments and tests they missed within one day for each day absent.  Please check the student handbook for a list of excused and unexcused absences.

Your child’s work can be picked up at the end of the day they are absent. Expecting your child to catch up at school is extremely difficult.

Tardy

We begin school  at 8:10.  If the student is late because of the bus then they are not counted tardy.  Students who come in late on a regular basis often struggle to catch up.

If your child is tardy they must check into the office when entering the building.

Money

Lunch money and other money sent to school should be in an envelope.  On the outside of the envelope please write your child’s name, the amount you have enclosed, and what you are paying for.

Toys & Phones

Toys, games, cards, electronic equipment and toys in disguise should not be brought to class.  If a toy is taken from a student it will only be returned to the parents when they pick up the toy in person or to the student at the end of the school year.  Toys (kick balls, soccer balls, etc.) brought for recess must be kept in lockers at all times except during recess.

We encourage Intermediate school students to leave their phones at home.  If it is necessary to bring a phone they are asked to turn it off put it on the teacher's desk inthe morning.  They may pick it up at the end of the day.  Our lockers do not have locks.

Birthday Parties

Many students bring birthday treats to school on or near their birthday. Please give me at least a 2-day notice if you plan to send treats.    Birthday treats should be individually wrapped treats or cupcakes, with more than enough for each child in the classroom.  Please remember to send napkins.  Do not send anything that needs to be cut and served, nor should you send drinks that need to be poured. Birthdays are celebrated, but with minimal disruption to the school day. Birthday treats are optional and certainly not required.

If you plan to send birthday invitations to school please make sure every child in the classroom gets an invitation. If you can only invite part of the class, please find other means to distribute birthday invitations.

Supplies

Students should be prepared for class each day.  Please keep supplies replenished when necessary. Send only the items requested on the supply list.  Some school supplies will be held in a general supply area until the item is needed and used by the whole class. Items not on the supply list will be sent home.
